Much larger than you may expect

So let me start by saying the quality of the set is great. The GP40 locomotive has a lot of good detail, very nicely built and has a nice solid feel to it. The cars are also very well made, with good detail, however they are huge but at the same time they are relatively very light and the locomotive appears tiny in front of them. In my case I bought a use model from warehouse deals and the locomotive was bad and didn't work so had to return the set. I did try to run the cars using my locomotive and I found because of the specs I listed above they would keep derailing. Also they cannot do curves less than 22" which is a shame, because majority of the other Bachmann sets come with 18" radius tracks, which means this set will not be compatible if you have some of the other Bachmann set. The cars were also not lighted, though I feel you can always easily add an LED in there, but nevertheless a few marks off for that also.

Nice but big cars

This is a great set we picked up and it's greatly detailed however you need to use the track it comes with (shallow turns) due to the long cars. We wound up placing this set around the outside of our other set and it worked great! Love it. Very nice engine and detail to cars overall.

My son loved the Christmas present the most!

Great train for people who love model railroading easy to assembly since we did the guy thing and never read the instructions and had it complete assembled in about a half an hour and have played with it for several days now!

Cars will not stay connected. Also,this is NOT the set with the light-up rolling stock.

Rolling stock will not stay connected to locomotive or each other. It functioned OK for two days and now not at all. Nothing else has changed. Track is perfectly smooth at all junctions. Very frustrating. Others who have had this same problem with Bachmann products are advised in online forums to invest in an upgrade to something called Kadee or Sergent couplers and buying a coupler height gauge and shims. WAY more than I want to get into with a set that's supposed to be ready-to-run. This one is going back. Also, be aware that there are two different sets with two different types of rolling stock. One lights up (the set that has the cars "Chulitna" or "Chena"), and the other does not (the set that has the cars "Knik" and "Kenai") (The "Chulitna" and "Chena" are also available as open stock, for about seventy dollars each.) The locomotive lights up on both sets. The controller in the set that I received does not have 16 volt accessory pins like my other Bachmann controller (that came with an N-Scale set)

great set for analog trains

train set was for my grandson. He really loved it. It had one small problem. Light on front of engine did not work, but rather then send back, I worked on it and got it fixed....otherwise would have given it 5 stars Will work on engine again to convert to DCC if feasible.
