Comparison with other rolls

Because the foam is heat sensitive, this roll can be quite firm to begin with so isn't ideal immediately, but it's won me over. Here's why. I find a neck roll suits me better than a pillow at night because my hair doesn't end up mashed to my head, but finding the right type of support for both back and side sleeping is really a challenge. I have tried four different types of rolls, one of which is a U shaped neck support thing from BB&B that I love for back sleeping at night in the winter because the size and support is good and it keeps my neck warm (it's by Bedding Essentials and isn't sold on Amazon), but when I turn over it doesn't work anymore so I set out to find a roll that would work. My first requirement was that the roll not be too long because then my hair is still mashed and since I'm retired I don't want to wash and restyle it every day. 12" seemed good so I tried three rolls of that length. One, a firm density lumbar roll was far too firm for neck support and was sent back, the second is a simple 12" x 5" foam roll. It is also quite firm although better. It has only a cheap fabric covering though with not even a zipper to close it. I'm not impressed. This roll has a far more comfortable soft fabric covering that zips closed. When you first lay back against the pillow, it's quite firm, some may think too firm, in fact, when it was delivered and had sat outside in the cold for a while it was like a stone. But when it warms from your body heat, it softens quite pleasantly to conform to your shape. I put it under the blankets in my bed and when I turn on my side at night, I grab it for my pillow. Then it is just right as the foam compresses nicely to give the right amount of comfort and good support. And best of all, it accommodates my ear nicely so my ear is never sore or itchy in the morning as has happened with firmer rolls. Also the pillow doesn't seem to aggravate my rosacea which is made worse by too much heat. While this pillow is not perfect and I wouldn't choose it for traveling because it needs time to warm up, it's the best I've found so far for nighttime.

Too small for my intended purpose

Too small and squishy for what I needed. Non returnable. :( Anybody want a new one? It's just sitting in the box collecting dust.

The perfect SOFT, GENTLE and SUPPORTIVE lumbar roll

My wife has purchased several of these lumbar rolls over the last 20 years. The roll's softness and support are it's best features. The foam is very crushable, conforms to your body and holds it's shape. This roll provides wonderful back support in the car and it will last for years. Recently our daughter had leg pain which radiated from her back to her thigh. She placed the roll under her thigh and it brought her relief and the possibity of sleep with little or no pain medication. The seller's description, "foam with a firm density," is extremely misleading. If it weren't such a wonderful product, I would have given it one star for this seller's use of the phrase "firm density" without the explanation that it is extremely crushable (conforms to your body) and holds it's shape. This roll stands in stark contrast to a "hard" or "firm" lumbar roll, such as the "McKenzie Lumbar Roll, made by OPTP," which forces your body to it's shape. My wife uses the McKenzie hard roll to support her feet in the car with her shoes on. If you need this type of support, McKenzie is the ticket. Amazon would be well advised to place this product on page one in the list of lumbar rolls: 1. For contrast and 2. To make it easier to find.

Could be better

I find it too short. It doesn’t stay in place in the chair, but I do get some relief from lower back pain.

It is smaller - but that's fine (4.5 starts)

I saw a few comments here, and I'd like to give credit where credit is due. Yes, it is small. It is 11 3/4 inches long by about 5 inches wide. It does make it hard to stabilize under your neck or back, at least at first. HOWEVER, you'll notice I gave it 4 stars - more appropriately, it should be about 4.5 stars. It does do the trick. It looks nice, feels nice, and is firm. Once you do get it into a nice position, it does stay where it needs to. I'm not a tiny person - at 6' 1" and 208 pounds, my neck is not tiny, and nor is my back. The pillow fits, it does do its job nicely. Bigger, and it may be unwieldy. I can prop up my lower back while sitting in bed, and fit it behind my neck when I sleep at night.

Baby Bear Approved

When you want something behind your neck the will squish and conform comfortably to your unique shape, this cervical pillow might be just what you are looking for. Sometimes a 'dog bone' type feels best, or even one of those cylindrical decorative bed pillows. However, there are times when this is just like the baby bear's porridge in Goldilocks and the Three Bears...it's juuuuust right! Made of memory foam with an attractive navy blue covering. And this might sound silly to some, but I really liked that it arrived in a sealed bag with a pack of desiccant. No wondering how many germ laden fingers tossed it about prior to delivery. It was (probably) manufactured and sealed. Enough to make any irrational germ-a-phobe like myself smile!

I got what I expected you might not.

The pictures can be deceiving, there's one that's way too long under the guy's neck. You're not getting that one. This is only 12inches long. Look at the other pictures and the measurements. It's fairly firm memory foam in a decently soft cover.

It stinks.

I've written a lot of reviews; recommended every product. Not this one. First off, it's got a horrible smell that's not just on the cover. It goes right into the foam. Can't wash that out. I have allergies & it was strong enough I couldn't sleep with the pillow across the room. Had to stick it in a pail with a lid. It's also smaller than the picture showed. And there's no return accepted on this article. Didn't matter which reason I checked off, no return. So it's sitting outside waiting to go to the garbage can out back. It took me two weeks to decide to chance buying it in the first place. Majorly disappointed.

Soft and Not thick enough. Or firm enough.

Maybe I have a long neck or a fat head, but I feel a rolled up old pillow behind the neck works better when it doesn't cripple you If it was a little bigger and former it would be perfect. My neck feels better when I use this in conjunction with another pillow, but a larger, firmer pillow would be ideal. .

NO RETURNS

The stitching doesn't even line up; you can see the gap in the picture. The factory QC is terrible, which leaves me wondering about the quality/safety of the Polyurethane foam in this particular item. AMAZON SAYS "This item isn't eligible for return". I'll get my money back by cancelling my Prime account. No returns....

Neck pillow

This is a little bit large for ones neck and the foam is very firm. Takes some getting used to. Must add that it is NON Returnable but refundable. The cover is not made that great. Cover again with a small pillow case just to prevent pilling
