Packed with thoughtful features

The back is well padded with a mesh surface to allow airflow, which makes for a much less sweaty experience, and includes a sleeve for the handle of a rolling suitcase. The straps also have mesh, are ergonomically curved, and feature a sternum strap that can be positioned at a wide variety of heights, making this suitable for different bodies. Each strap also has a horizontal band of the recycled fabric; I’m planning to clip reflectors to these, but you could attach carabiners instead. The 1” webbing waist belt helps further stabilize the bag but can also be tucked behind the padded panel so it isn’t dangling if not in use. The top of the bag and right side (as worn) have padded mesh handles, and the bottom of the bag has a webbing handle. The left side has a carabiner. The zippered compartment nearest to one’s back is a top loading padded laptop compartment lined with soft flannel. It offers ample space for my 15” HP Envy laptop, and I appreciate having my computer fully separated from my books and other items rather than in a sleeve within the main compartment. I think this might benefit from a bit of extra padding at the bottom in case the bag is set roughly onto a hard surface, but I believe the protection is adequate. There’s also a flat 7”x8” zippered pocket on the right side of the bag; my phone and a small cardholder wallet fit well in there. Next is the main compartment. It’s lined in a grey, white, and taupe synthetic floral print material. There are two 8.5”x6.5” mesh pockets with elastic tops side by side on the back wall of this compartment. This is otherwise a big open compartment for textbooks and notebooks. The zipper opens widely, allowing for easy access. The pockets on the front of the bag are lined with the same floral print. The top pocket also has a semi-rigid piece with a soft black lining that can be velcroed in to hold sunglasses. The next pocket down has a zippered mesh pocket on the front panel. The back wall of this pocket includes a key leash, an 8”x9” flannel lined slip pocket, a small slip pocket, and 3 individual pen/pencil pockets. The final zippered pocket on the front of the bag is a 10.5” deep flat pocket with a horizontal zipper. There’s a water bottle pocket on each side of the bag. These are a reinforced mesh with elastic on top and the bag’s standard body material on bottom. They don’t fit a Nalgene but can accommodate my 750 ml CamelBak Chute and a 24 oz travel mug. There’s a vented shoe compartment lined with wipe-clean vinyl at the bottom of the bag. Unfortunately, placing a pair of sneakers in here results in losing a sizeable amount of room in the main compartment as the sneaker pocket expands up into that space. The backpack seems sturdy and well made. It looks relatively sleek and professional. The zippers operate smoothly. Overall, this bag is so thoughtfully designed that if it proves to be durable, it just might be the perfect school bag.
