Heavy duty and imposing-looking padlock.

This is a beefy lock that I purchased to go along with my thick coiled cable or my square-link bicycle chain. The hole/clearance between the shackles for which to accommodate links or cable loops is 13/16" wide x 1 3/16" tall. The shackle diameter is 11/32" even though it is listed on Amazon as both 1/4" and 3/8" and Master Lock's site lists it as 9/32". I thought I'd provide this information that I personally measured as I've purchased locks before and trusted the specifications that were listed on the item only to find that they were not correct and the item would not work with my existing chain and/or cable. I'm very pleased with this lock so far. The lock mechanism is smooth and seems as it is engineered to very precise tolerances (NO loose fitting or excessive play whatsoever). I do not store my bicycle outside when not in use, so I cannot comment as to its weather-resistance qualities beyond using normally to lock up at stores and such to date. However,I do periodically lube with a lightweight machine oil or WD40 to prevent potential lock sticking. For me, this was a great compromise to the overpriced Kryptonite mini u-locks/disc locks (especially when I read reviews that they stick and won't open after a period of time). This lock looks very imposing as well, and if I were a thief, I would tackle the chain, cable or (preferably) another bike before trying to get through this brute of a lock. I would recommend this as a more compact and acceptable alternative to those larger and much pricier locking solutions.

Decent quality for the price.

This lock feels formidable when you handle it. It is fairly heavy for its size, and overall, it seems well made. There is not much space between the shackle and the lock body, and even if there were, it is probably impossible to shim this lock due to its ball-bearing locking mechanism. The key cylinder contains 5 pins, 4 of which are spool-shaped security pins. The security pins make it difficult to pick the lock quickly. I purchased this lock to practice my skill at lock picking, and it has been a good beginning challenge. Occasionally, I get lucky and pick it open in a matter of seconds, but most of the time, it takes longer than that. For the price, this is a very decent lock.

Careful ...wrong dimensions for 1 1/4 shackle lock

I ordered the 1 1/4" shackle lock. The product specs and descriptions give conflicting measurements for the lock. So, I included the actual measurements below. This lock has a 3/8" thick shackle. For comparison, it's a thicker shackle than commonly seen Master Lock round dial combination locks). The body of the lock is made from a block of steel making it heavy and substantial feeling in the hand. The cylinder also appears steel. The shackle slides shut butter smooth. I'll be using it indoors so won't know how it holds up to outdoor weather. TOTAL HEIGHT (CLOSED): 3 1/4 inches BODY: Height - 1 13/16 inches Width - 2 inches Thickness - 3/4 inch SHACKLE: The shackle is 3/8 inches thick. It extends 1 1/2 inches above the body when closed, making the total height of the lock about 3 1/4 inches when closed.

Fantastic padlock! Hefty!

Most padlocks are made of solid brass, brass usually contains a small amount of lead. Most padlocks come with a warning saying "This product contains chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer and reproductive harm in humans." I personally don't want to handle a product with that warning on a daily basis. This padlock is made out of solid steel and contains no lead. The bonus is that this lock is large and I would consider it to provide a high level of security. It's a fantastic padlock which is safe to handle and it's a hefty beast of a lock!

This turned out better than I expected

I lost my previous lock and needed a new lock. I use this lock for gym lockers only. The only feature I was looking for was a lock with a long shackle. This turned out better than I expected. It was noticeably better quality than my previous lock and the key removes without having to lock it. My last lock I had to close the lock before I could remove the key.

Very solid lock

Very solid lock. The 2-in. Shackle clearance allows me to lock a box that smaller padlocks would not accommodate. I wish Amazon could include the description from the package (which has illustrations showing the features and the dimensions) for fuller package. I would've posted a picture here if it were not for the fact that there's a copyright notice on the package description. As with most brass products, it comes with a Prop 65 warning for California.

Holy. Moly.

I wanted a lock to secure the two ends of a security cables together for my semi-expensive bike sitting outside. I did not expect this sucker. It doubles as a weapon in a pinch. I don't know how hard it is to break in to. I think most wannabe criminals just see the lock and pee themselves. It looks like it might punch you in the face if you get too close. Also, no signs of rust, looks brand new. Very, very happy with the lock. This is what you expect from Master Lock.

Very Nice Lock

Heavy well built lock with a large diameter shackle. Lock has enhanced key tumbler which would make picking more difficult. Looks like a very good lock for high value items.
