I just received this set of 115pc supposedly M35 5% cobalt drills with index. I was disappointed to see that out of the box the set was missing #15 drill. It seems that this set was assembled from drills made by various manufacturers and not from the same source you can tell from the picture the different finishes and different marking processes. Not a big deal for me if they are close in quality. Pros: these are great value for the money, other sets cost the same for just regular HSS. Even though the bit look like they came from different source the seem to have the same grinde and they seem sharp. Cons: not the same finish on all drills. Missing drill #15 on arrival. Drill letter Y was covered in dirt and grime.

A terrific drill bit set

Great drill bits, super tough and have stayed sharp. I've used them a ton drilling into mild steel, aluminum, and wood with almost no issues (other than breaking a tiny one due to my own alignment mistake). I would definitely buy cobalt drill bits again, but with this set I doubt I'll have to buy any for a long time. I would recommend starting your holes with a short stubby drill of some kind if you're drilling into steel, otherwise these are long enough that the point will wander and may end up off-center.

Good for light use

I used the 7/8" to enlarge 2 holes in the steering knuckles for the new tie rod end sleeves. I oiled it, went slow, iced the knuckles, and still had to sharpen it on a grinder 10 times until it was on about 2 inches long. I don't think they're cobalt but I guess you get what you pay for.

This is Cobalt?

These seem too soft to be cobalt. I used the #18 to drill two mounting holes in the jaws of a cheap imported caliper, after shortening the caliper jaws with a Dewalt hacksaw blade. The hacksaw blade had no trouble and remains sharp, but this drill instantly dulled when the cutting fluid (Viper's Venom) ran out. The speed was 620 RPM, certainly not too fast for a #18 drill. Cobalt steel is more heat tolerant than HSS. I doubt these are cobalt. The drills are split-point, and the points are well centered.

Missing bit

I got a 59 piece set. I was missing the #60. Most likely because most of the bits were askew inside of the index upon arrival. I will change my rating if the make it right. Bits look fine otherwise.

Disappointing.

Index allowed full row of smallest drills to slide out and disburse throughout. This can easily happen if shipped cover down. Since none smaller than #32 are marked for size, measuring is necessary to properly index them. Upon measuring I found that some of these small sizes were missing while some were duplicates. Bit grind on some of the drills is poor/unacceptable. Too bad because most of the drills look fine. Returned, did not use.

Most of the drills are fantastic. I use the entire range from #60 (.040) to #1 (.228) I would have given a 5 star review if all of them were... Some of the drills have different flute lengths. That's no good for a new drill set. I didn't mind the different drill lengths since they don't affect size but an uneven flute makes larger holes. I could have scrapped parts had I not checked.

Upgraded Case - Excellent

I have yet to use any bits.. they just arrived.. and to my surprise they were in a very nice round case with screw top lid perfect for keeping in a vehicle, listed as a strong case.. I was going to buy a similar one.. well I did but this one appears even better.. VERY Pleased.. hope the bits are as good as they look!

I am a little confused with what I purchased was a drill America drill set but was sent a Huot drill set. It would have been nice to have a proper description of the item I was purchasing in the product description. The box has the same product number as the item I thought I was buying.

Up to the task!

I mostly drill through Stainless Steel and they are holding up, use them properly and you'll be fine. I had some of the very edges chip, but that is due to an operator error ;)

Smooth drilling

I'm working with aluminum materials right now and these bits work very well. There is no pressure no noise just smooth drilling
