Inferior quality

I was very excited about this dinnerware because the design is beautiful. After having it a few years, I noticed a smell inside my cabinets that smelled like mold. A few other pieces I use over and over again and get cleaned in the dishwasher regularly. When I have family here and use most of the pieces - my 6 year old granddaughter said the bowls had black specks on them. To my dismay - I realized that the specks were mold. The ceramic had not been glazed properly and the wet bare ceramic was moldy. Purely a health hazard and I am very disappointed.

Beautiful but extremely fragile.

This set is so beautiful that when the first set started to chip on day one, I bought a second set. I've overlooked how fragile they are. Even if you cut food in the plate, you are likely to chip it with the table knife. Nevertheless, I love them, they make your table look fancy and meals look even tastier in this set. I paired them to gold finish silverware and they look-like fine china. Would not put them on my wedding registry. However, at this price point, they can be used until you are ready to better quality.

Beautiful!

This is my 3rd set of these dishes. I bought two and wished I had a third. The first two were a little fragile and there was some cracking/chipping but they are so gorgeous that I went ahead and ordered a third set and I couldn't be happier. This set is identical in design but sturdier. Absolutely love them. If you're thinking about it, just do it!

Gorgeous set!

This set is gorgeous and exactly what I was looking for. However, I had a very hard time with them being broken once they arrived to my house...I had to send back several boxes and order new. They also do get very hot when you microwave them.

Form but no function... :(

It took my about 6 months to find dishes that were in my budget that I liked. When I found these (through the Horchow website), I was super excited. I loved the deep bowls, and the shape of the salad plates. I purchased these dishes in September, 8 place settings. I was so excited to open the box, they designs on the dishes were a little less detailed than the deisgns in the pictures, but I didn't mind so much. Then, about 2 weeks later I ordered several more boxes and the finishing on the new dishes were more detailed. Though they are technically the same, the colors are different, the imprints on the new dishes are very structured, which opposes the imprints on the older set, which looked like the pottery was wet when they sunk in the designs. n the last 9 months, nearly every piece has chipped (very frustrating). At first I thought that it was my husband being rough when unloading them from the dishwasher, until I noticed that I was chipping them also. The glaze over these dishes is cracking at the bottom of many of the bowls, and so far, one plate. And as for the claim of microwavable... that is a complete joke. These plates get so hot, that you cannot pick them up, while the food on the plate remains cold (...again VERY FRUSTURATING!!!). Anyway, I hate to say it because they are so pretty, but these dishes are just no good. :'(

Beautiful appearance

The dishes are beautiful. They are very lightweight which surprised me as due to t by e cost, expected a heavier product. Not sure how they work as everyday dishes. I am using them as a decorative display on the dining room table.

Great design!

Upon first view, these are beautiful. Small flecks and imperfections abound, but few are noticeable unless put under close scrutiny. Perhaps not 'by appointment to her majesty' quality, but beautiful to look at and surprisingly easy to clean. With all the grooves and ripples, one might imagine food getting stuck. Not really...

great set

I ordered this set despite the negative comments, just because i loved the design.. I found nothing wrong with it.. its beautiful, good quality.. not a bone china, but great for occasions or day to day.. survived the dishwasher without any brakes or chips.. i have ordered 2 more sets since and all I can say I'm very pleased with it.. amazon packs it beautifully, never had any breakage during transport..

Poor glazing process

Beautifully ornate dish set, light weight ceramic wear that gets hot in microwave, hard to cut food on because the design is grooved right into the center of the plate. Glazing is not great as there are small bubbles in the finish. Cups are wide and shallow, can tell they will chip easy and feel fragile. Bought 2 sets Not sure I will keep them. Update I kept them but not for everyday use. I have found areas on the plates that are not even glazed fully. But they are pretty, love the bowls. I’ve had these now as a secondary set for 2 years and have noticed the glaze is actually wearing right off the plates! Do not recommend this set. Wish I had returned them.
