Disappointed

My last instant-read thermometer was wonderful and lasted for many years. When it stopped working properly, I went on the hunt for a replacement and purchased this thermometer. I wish I hadn't. The overall face is too small and not the easiest to hold on to if you have steam or oil in the mix. For me, it was also not the easiest to read. I don't know about accuracy. It seemed really slow in coming up to the temperature although it seemed faster the more I used it on a given item. My one regret was that I didn't write down the name of the manufacturer that made my old one. I threw it away when I got this new one. This one is now going in the trash and I'm again looking for one like my old one.

Works well, lasts for a long time

I've now owned this for 7 years, I still use it all the time -- amazing value! In all that time I've only had to change the batteries 3 times (so my worries about its power switch arrangement were unfounded.) The one slight issue I've experienced was accidentally switching it from Fahrenheit to Celsius without noticing. I absolutely desiccated a turkey trying to get its temp up to 170 C (which I don't think is possible, short of setting it on fire.) If you use Celsius mode this mistake is impossible, the Celsius value at which you expect meat to be fully cooked, is barely room temperature in Fahrenheit. But if you're used to Fahrenheit, accidentally switching modes but failing to notice easily lead you to badly over-cooking your meat. (Really it's hard to call this a problem with the device, more of a stupid user trick.) ----------------------------------------------------- original review ----------------------------------------------------- This thermometer works well, it reads fairly quickly, and it has given me no reason to question it's accuracy. But for whatever reason, in a world of electronic devices with momentary on switches and time-out features, this one has a single-throw lever switch. On is on, and off is off, with no embedded idle-detect program in between. To compound this it's fairly easy to turn it on accidentally, however, in its defense, the first battery is still going strong, despite my having inadvertently left it powered-on in a drawer for days on end. I should also note that it came with an extra battery, so at this time the power arrangement is a non-issue for me... it's just a little different than many things of this nature. Addendum: It's now 4 1/2 years later, I use this all the time, I've had to buy batteries for it once. Still very pleased.

Not durable in the slightest..

No extra battery as advertised

This meat thermometer is almost ideal to my old one which finally died and had been designed so the battery could not be removed and replaced. It serve me well for many years........I forgot to turn the thermometer after its last use and no more battery. Hence the replacement. Amazon claimed this one came with an extra battery (which it did not) but I am not going to return it just for that....not worth the hassle.

fast thermometer

When my husband ordered this meat thermometer I thought that you could use it to check steaks on the grill. Unfortunately, it is like most thermometers of that kind where it must be inserted at least an inch into the meat for an accurate temperature. It is quick but don't forget to turn it off as it is battery operated!

Not as fast reading as advertised

After using several different digital thermometers I bought this one based on the advertised "instant-read" feature. Well, it does not instantly read the temperature, and the display is quite small and hard to read. I've used it a few times, and will continue to, because its just okay.

this product works perfectly every time. It is very accurate and quick so you don't have your hands over a hot skillet very long. The only reason I gave it a 4 was because I wish it had a longer reach. Other than that I would highly recommend it for everyone.

Fast and easy to read. I'm a little worried about liquid or food eventually getting in around the openings for the slide switches. It would be 5 stars if it were sealed.
