Awesome!

This kit teaches from the most basic step to much more complicated. With guidance, my 8 year old learned multiple physics and engineering concepts and was super excited about her creations. Make sure you have at least two new AA batteries on hand.

Fiddley and hard to assemble

This does not come with the board shown on the box. The projects are hard to assemble, even for an adult.

Arrived damaged, didn’t work

It was only after helping my son put together the first experiment he wanted to try that we realized something was wrong. After spend 30 minutes carefully putting the pieces together, we had to take the entire thing apart, to find that one of the metal contacts coming off of the motor was broken and the entire set was unusable. It’s a shame a set meant for children isn’t more durable.

Educational

This Thames & Kosmos Easy Electric Circuits STEM Kit was great. It was so educational and so fun for them to make. Robotics is such a great area and I really liked exposing them to it. We really like science kits. I would much prefer them doing something than watching something. Science is such an important subject, and I really like that they can learn about it. It is nice because they can spend the time doing it. They are excited when they make something themselves. They love to make new discoveries. This is a great activity for a rainy day or a day when your child is sick or when you are just stuck at home. It is a good way to keep a child busy. I thought it was age appropriate. It wasn’t too hard. The children really liked how it turned out. I feel like this is good for child development. It kept my children's interest. It would also make a nice gift. I would recommend it.

fun, simple circuit activity for children who like to tinker

My son is six year-old and loves to build things on his own; he also enjoys taking things apart to see how they work. This was gifted to him as a kindergarten graduation gift. The instruction manual is simple to use, even for someone who is not skilled in electrical engineering. A younger child will need assistance with building the parts but for an older child, this will be an independent project. The parts fit together nicely and all the different things to build work as advertised. My child who does not enjoy building things was completely uninterested; so be sure to only get it for someone truly interested in how things work. Overall, a fun, quality project for young children to complete with assistance.

Great activity kit but hard to get it going.

The media could not be loaded. It was hard to get the project working. Once the project was assembled, we needed to go back and make sure the metal clips were touching the metal brackets correctly or else it would not work. Because of this I would not give it a five star because we would make sure the metal parts were touching, but with all the assemble handling sometimes we would move the motor again. Basically the motor metal clips are very thin and looks fragile and bend easily. Other than this, the plastic pieces look of good quality material and are easy to put together. The pieces are colorful and the finished project is colorful and attractive to my son. The kit comes with a little tool that you can use to pull off the pieces which is helpful when you need to un-assemble it. This will happen since you use the same pieces to build several models. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. The kit was very attractive to my son which he likes to build things, but when it came to the project not working my husband had to jump in to help and make sure that all connections were correct.

Great to do with your younger one, a little frustrating.

I've been waiting for my nephew to come visit to use this and he finally came this past weekend. We love to do projects together to spend a little quality time and this was a good one. He just turned 10 and honestly I think he could probably do this on his own but it was a little complicated. Putting it together part was not but the getting it to work part was. In creating the little robot you have to make sure that all of the circuits are secure. The metal has to be touching and it's easily jarred out of place. It's so thin that it can be moved or unintentionally bent a little easy so you do have to handle with care. This kept us busy for about an hour doing a couple of experiments and I would say it was worth it. If you're looking for quality time or the younger kids to promote some conversation and a little learning this is a decent product. Expect some frustration however!

Not suitable for the non tech minded

I bought this for my granddaughter's fifth birthday on the basis that we would make the projects together or she would do so with her dad. It was simply too complex and fiddly for such a young child. I'm not sure an eight year old would have managed any better.

For Curious Minds

There's always a place for educational toys and understanding the basics of electrical engineering is a very useful skillset. There's much to applaud in this set. The instructions are well produced and put the different projects into perspective as well as making the builds fairly straightforward. Some of the components need to be sourced from around the house, but I think this just adds to the creativity required. Some of the elements were a little flimsy and some finessing was required to get elements to work. The does give rise to a little concern about how often these can be pulled apart and rebuilt. However, I think this is a good idea that is well executed and will make a very good present for any bright and enquiring-minded child.
