Impressive poles.
It is important to know that there are poles out there that fold up smaller. But I think these get small enough that they can be held comfortably on your backpack if you have the fancy kind that hold poles. If you want them to fit in your pack, you may need another style, although be warned that the other type I know about fold up in multiple pieces and are bulkier in their own way. These are three-piece telescoping. The top two sections are held in place with a tensioning lever, much like most bike seats and wheels are held in place. The bottom two sections are held by turning the bottom section so that it pushes up and out a plastic (yes, plastic) interior piece to create friction. Surprisingly, once very tight, you then turn the same section back and forth slightly to turn on or off the "shock absorber". While I might be skeptical if I only heard about how this works (with the plastic component, and the fact that the shock absorber "switch" is within the same motion as the tightening mechanism), when I examine this item closely, I just can't see anything but great quality. I also cannot break the hold the tightening mechanisms have unless I put unnatural weight on the poles (i.e., more than a normal lean). Also, the two types of cups they give you for the bottom of the poles screw on, which is also nice. Seems like everything is very well thought out and also well executed. And they are super light (so plastic inside is very justified as long as it continues to work, and I guess it will). Maybe not the preferred style for everyone due to the folded up length, but this style definitely has its advantages. Give these a serious look if you are in the market for this style.

Extremely light, easy to use, highly recommended!
For those who need assistance in hiking rough terrain, a trekking pole/waking stick is definitely worth bringing along. May it be for stability or to provide rhythm to your walking pace. But they really do help in taking pressure of your back and joints (especially if you have a heavy backpack), especially going uphill and also downhill. Especially if you had knee or ankle or lower back issues in the past, it's always good to be practice personal safety. The YUKON CARBON LITE Trekking Poles are perfect: - Soft touch extended EVA Grips - Padded Wrist Strap - Carbon fiber trekking poles that are extremely lightweight - Twist-lock Anti-Shock Feature - You have a two choices of pavement tip covers, you have a Mud/Sand Trekking Basket - Prevents tip from sinking too far in the mud or sand and a rubber grip for roadways or concrete paths and a Snow Trekking Basket The walking stick can adjust to 65cm (2.1 feet) -135cm (4.4 feet) and weights only a pound. I tend to have only used aluminum trekking poles but the carbon shaft is extremely light and really can hold my weight! These poles does utilize springs which act like shock absorbers. The different tips and trekking baskets included are a plus. It's very simple to extend using the TLAS - Twist Lock Anti-Shock. Top portion is unsnap/snap portion similar to what you see on camera tripods, but the bottom portion is extended by unloosening or tightening the bottom portion (near the pavement tip covers) and is easy to lock it in place. Overall, the YUKON CARBON LITE Trekking Poles are great for Nordic Walking, exerstriding and hiking! Extremely light, easy to use and is highly recommended!

Very nice, Lightweight walking poles
This is our first set of carbon fiber walking/trekking poles. We've used other poles in the past (which I've broken on long descents). These are built tough, but are very light. I like that they have a clasp closure for collapsing the upper extender. This makes it very easy to collapse as opposed to the twist and twist and twist to unlock/lock to finally collapse. These do have the twist to lock on the bottom extender, but to collapse for tying on to a pack, you can just unclasp the upper portion and that makes these manageable. They come with a shock absorbing capability which can be turned on or off based on the way you twist the pole. The shock absorption is nice, but I have detected a little rattle when placing the pole. I'd rather that they just be solid without the rattle. The grips are comfortable, and the padding extends down past the grip area which is nice. All in all, they're pretty good trekking poles.

Yukon Trekking Poles Carbon Lite
These trekking poles are made with carbon fiber so they are strong and lightweight. Adjusting the height to fit the user is quick and sure. Using a fast lock telescopic design a segment of the pole is adjusted in a manner reminiscent of camera tripod legs. The second section is turned to release and then tightened to lock. A shock absorber feature is built-into the pole to help mitigate impact and may be engaged or disengaged as desired. Detailed instructions are included. The poles collapse down to 25 1/2 inches so they are compact to store and extend to 55 inches which should accommodate most heights. A clip is included to tether them together when not in use. They are lightweight, together weighing just over one pound. Designed for user comfort, the molded grips are easy to grasp and created with EVA plastic which does well in cold temperatures and is strong. The wrist straps are padded and adjust in length for a custom fit. The poles can be used year-round with the included accessories—baskets are included for trekking in summer sand and winter snow along a pair for walking on pavement. Excellent.
