Material on bottom of bag not adequate quality

I'm new to Vertx, and I'm loving the quality of my OTHER bags...this was going to be bag #3! The material on the bottom is a common PVC/plastic-coated material. When mine arrived, it was already deteriorating where it had been folded. It came from a 3rd party, so maybe it had been on the shelf a while. I opted to return it instead of doing a warranty claim because it could go through periods of sitting in my closet too and the same thing might happen. I think it was just poor choice of materials on this section, because the rest of the bag is very premium. My v3 Ready Pack nor my 45L Duffel does not have the same material....but both of those are brand new designs. When/If a new version of this bag comes out, maybe it will be improved. I also have some of their pants - Delta Stretch 2.1 and Defiance Jeans - both are top notch. I wear them every day!

Disappointed somewhat

I love everything about this bag EXCEPT that the coating on the handle and lower edge started coming off almost immediately. Not a huge deal but highly inconvenient that the stuff rubs off on my clothes and any other area it comes in contact with. At this point I’m just gonna sit down for an hour or two and try to get it all off in one shot.

Incredible quality, mediocre sling design.

I rated this bag at 4 stars because it's impossible to review a Vertx product negatively. Seriously, Vertx is as good as it gets in terms of quality materials and construction. If you're reading this, you just need to know that it's only a "meh" rating for the design from my experience. This thing would be excellent if you used it as a messenger bag only, or if you need to switch carry styles often. For most people, I'm guessing this isn't going oto be the case. There are plenty of other messenger style, laptop-carrying bags out there. This thing feels like they tried way too hard to cover all bases with carry configurations, and didn't really nail any of them. As a sling, it's comfortable to carry, but the bag hangs on your back in a very odd way. You can tighten the straps, adjust all you want for better position, but it still just kind of flops there without feeling secure, and doesn't hug close to your back. If they just moved the sling attachment points toward the 'outside' of the pack, it would pull the bag in tight while it's slung. With the straps mounted more or less in the middle, the bag isn't pulled tight. I ended up returning the Dead Letter and got a Commuter 2.0 instead. The strap on the Commuter 2.0 isn't moveable of course, but it's a much better design if you only plan on carrying the bag as a sling, and don't need to adjust to carry on the other shoulder. The Commuter pulls tight to your back. If this bag was a big igloo prep kind of pack - something like a heavy duty 3-day ruck, I wouldn't probably be so critical of fitment. Those are hard use justgetitdone kind of packs. Being a nice looking, office-friendly EDC "gray man" kind of sling, I think the fitment is a big deal. Can't go wrong with the quality and looks, but I think other sling desings are much better

My favorite EDC bag

I have been using this bag for a few months now and I still absolutely love it. It is the perfect size for what I needed it for BUT the main compartment may be too small for some. I only use this as a messenger bag 98% of the time but I still found it comfortable as a sling the few times I used it like that as well. If you only plan on using it as a sling I would probably go with the Commuter Sling 2.0. It is a similar size overall with a larger main compartment.

Not a lot of admin space.

I ordered this bag to replace my Vertx Transit bag. I wanted something to carry my daily work stuff with a dedicated laptop/tablet pocket, which this bag has and feels secure, even though it's not padded. I also was impressed with the idea of being able to convert the bag from a briefcase/messenger bag to a sling pack. As a messenger bag the bag functioned well, but in it's sling pack configuration there were some issues. Because the buckle is in the center it felt like it was sitting awkwardly on my back. It could be just I wasn't used to it. My biggest issue was the size of the main compartment. There just wasn't enough room for my needs. The overall dimensions given are 5" wide. It looks like the interior is bigger from the outside. It seemed most of this is the CCW compartment which is excellent. However, the main compartment was probably only 2.5" wide. This bag would probably be better suited for someone looking for a gun case that can hold accessories rather than a work bag.

Great bag, not for me though

Nice setup, but not for me. I could barely fit my 15" work laptop in there, and there was really ni room for anything else. If your purpose is to carry a pcc discreetly but with nothing else, this is your bag. I have other Vertx stuff and absolutely love it. Just, needed a little more room for other stuff too.
