Fit a 25yr old fan motor

My fan was put in in 1996. I couldn't read the plate anymore, but it looked and measured to be the same as the Broan 688. The motor plate (what you see when cover removed) has a tab on one side and two tabs on the other. Unplug it. I used a screwdriver to pry out the tab on one side, it then came out with the other two acting as a hinge, leaving the steel box. I removed the new motor plate. The remaining box in the ceiling was still perfectly good and there is no reason it would not have been. I used a hammer to bend the flange a little more to avoid a lot of pushing hard and damaging the ceiling. It slipped back in like the original. I then was left with the new steel box which I tossed into recycling. Yes it is a waste of 3 dollars for the unneeded box, but I didn't have to hire a $200 electrician or spend 2 hours in the attic replacing a perfectly good box. It took me a total of 10 minutes. As far as noise, yes you can hear it. It is a strong fan and designed not just for smell but also works well for steam. If you have a fan that you cannot hear, then it is serving no purpose.

671 & 688 are Interchangeable

I needed to replace two 30 year old, rusty, noisy, units with the model number N688-H. After a few hours of reading through the reviews, I took a chance on buying two 671 models. Low and behold, they fit perfectly and the instructions also refer to the old model 688 as well. Yes, the 671 is not a quiet fan by some standards. But I want the moisture out of the shower room as fast as possible. For the price, it meets the bill. To remove the old, wear gloves, unplug, use a flat screw driver to free the single tab side, lower the motor frame. To install the new, insert the two tab side first, push up the single side to catch the single tab, and plug in. Done.

Gets the poo smell out quick!

I used these for fart fans. The old ones never cleared the room forcing me to get off the toilet sooner than I wanted. With these the stink is cleared before I'm done wiping and I can enjoy some alone time with out the stench. Not to mention my clothes don't stink when I walk out either.

Good but very delicate hooks.

The plastic hooks that holds the wires of the cover broke, they are too weak for the job. I had to glued them and see if it works.

Easy 70 cfm upgrade

Broan-NuTone 671: I had the same brand, but the 50 cfm model 696N. I felt that it took too long to draw the moisture out of the bathroom after a shower. Some research and I found that this 671 used the same sheet metal housing as the 696N. I ordered the 671. It arrived. I verified the housing was the same. Motor plate swap took about 2 minutes. Just remove the plastic grill, unplug the old motor, push on the sheet metal to release the single-tab side first, begin lowering motor plate, the double-tab side will unhook. Just put the 671 motor plate back in, reverse order of removing the old one. Done. It does clear the air faster. It is louder though. But that is to be expected. If you want quiet, you will have to get a thicker or taller unit, cut a bigger hole in the sheet rock, etc. But this worked out well for me, as I don't linger in the bathroom for long.

Bought as a replacement, easy to remove and replace

I bought this as a replacement exhaust fan for my parent's bathroom. It was the exact same model as the original, and the original fan had gone out. I was able to buy this entire unit for less than the cost of the replacement fan motor, so I bought it. I removed the old cover, unplugged the fan, pulled the fan assembly down, and then inserted this one in it's place, and used the new duct cover. 5 minute replacement job, and now it's working perfectly. The fan is loud for such a small space, but it does the job.

Silent and Sleek but works on 110v

Excellent product, it’s a exhaust ventilation fan. Only problem I’m returning this is it works on 110v as it come from USA & I don’t have space to keep voltage step down transformer from 220v to 110v.

Great wall mount vent fan

We installed this in the bathroom wall and installation (with the kit) was pretty easy. It does make a bit of noise, but it's not loud or an annoying noise; it sounds like a regular fan on high. Some other reviewers have said it's extremely noisy, but maybe it's where it was installed that's causing more noise, as this model can be used on either a wall or ceiling. It works really well to vent the steam from showers. We switch it on when we go in, and leave it on for a few minutes after we get out. The mirror clears up within a couple of minutes. The product info listed here mentions two sone levels, but this model is 6 sones according to the Broan website.

Absolute rubbish, just got it fitted now. It last 2mn, burned out , 120v written in very small letters !!!! £22 wasted.
