Review long overdue, a life saver
I was nearly in tears from sleep deprivation when I messaged my son's pediatrician on advice to sleep train him. He was 2 1/2 and transitioning to his own room with a toddler bed after being in our room since birth. We used the Supernanny technique for his training, but the one thing that kept getting in the way was the door handle situation. We didn't want to actually lock him in the room, but what else can you do when the toddler is hanging his weight on the door handle trying to escape 1000x during the night? We even considered rigging the door to make it a dutch style door to keep him inside while keeping the door open. He's able to climb up all baby gates at that point. She told me to look up Door Monkey on Amazon as she had used it for her own kids and tells all her patients' parents. Fast forward 4.5 years and another kid and baby on the way as well as 5 more cousins that visit often--- we have one of these locks on every interior door. The oldest kid can easily open it to get to the bathroom or wherever he needs, we just position it high enough. We bought some for Grandma and Grandpa's house too since they run a grandchild daycare pretty much. We even brought them on vacation when we stayed at AirBnBs with extended family so the young ones can't get into trouble or other people's rooms/bathrooms. No drilling, no permanency, no complicated mechanisms, just pure genius. We hang them on the door on a command hook when we need to close our bedroom or baby's room at night.

Easy and effective
I originally bought this to keep him in his room during nap time so that I don’t have to open and close the baby gate every time I want to go up and down the stairs, which makes a lot of noise. We’ve only actually had to use it a couple of times to train him to stay in his room for nap time. At first, I was concerned he would rip the door frame off during his tantrum, but it really doesn’t budge at all. Also, it’s easy to open from the inside if you get locked in there with them. We keep it off and only have to hold it up and say we’re going to put it back on if he throws a fit at nap time now because he prefers to sleep with the door all the way open. It keeps the door about 4 inches open so that fingers don’t get smashed, light can still get in, and I can hear if he is calling me for a real problem.

Best lock I have found
I got one of these a few months before buying them on here. It has been the best thing I have found the door dose not has to close all the way the kids can't reach it then call look in and see who is on the other side. In a small house ware not all the rooms are kid safe we can still have the air flowing with it getting into the hotter months. I have been having a horrible time keeping my son out of the bathroom if I'm in the bathroom he wants to be in there with me and I hate locking out with this he can see me but his not in the bathroom anymore.

Life changing!
Let me first say the Door Monkey is seriously life changing if you have little escape artists like I do. As a mom of 3, this product has been a staple in my household for about 7 years. My oldest (at 18 months old) figured out every baby-proofing device on the market. We had to find something that would keep him in his room overnight because he would get up in the middle of the night, sneak downstairs for a midnight snack, and in the morning I would find half-eaten butter sticks (he thought it was cheese) or full tubs of yogurt with a spoon sticking out hidden under the dining room table. We tried putting the lock on his door backwards, but since it was one he could open with a coin, he would pull pants out of his closet and use the zipper pull to unlock the door, he also used buttons on shirts and even pulled the tabs off furniture (the screw hole cover tabs) to pick the lock. We had to do contraband searches in his room to make sure he didn't hide objects that could unlock the doors. We finally found the door monkey and it was life changing. We absolutely love this little device! It is super easy to install and use! It keeps the door open just about an inch, so no pinched fingers and air can still circulate in and out of the room. Fast forward to child number 2, also an escape artist, we were totally prepared for his shenanigans with the door monkey. Fast forward to child number 3, this device is easy for my two older kids to operate on their doors to keep little sister out of their rooms, it keeps the cat out of her room, and we don't worry about pinched fingers or slamming doors. My boys like having control over being able to let themselves in and out of their rooms, with no worries about getting locked in a room like some of the devices out on the market. I will say, my two older boys figured out if they pushed on the door at just the right spot, it would pop the door open, but they were about 3 when they figured that out. I do have the door buddy to keep the dog out of the room the litter box is in, we like the door buddy, but the problem we have is that it is an adhesive fixture, which is why we only have 1 to allow the cat in her room while keeping kids and the dog out. We don't like adhesive products mainly because we live in military housing ... and anyone who has lived in military housing knows when you remove anything adhesive from the walls or doors, you will pull about 15 layers of paint off with it (even command strips). Since I don't want to get charged for those repairs and I'd rather not try to fix it myself, we really limit the number of adhesive products we use in our home(s). You do need to make sure you don't have a beveled or rounded door jam, the door monkey won't work on those (you will need the adapter, which wasn't available when I first found these). Sometimes the doors are too narrow for the door monkey to really stay tight on the door, but that's an easy fix with some rubber furniture pads cut down to size, slip that between the door and door monkey and it won't budge on you, and it won't leave a mark on the door. I highly recommend this product (I'm ordering more today since my littlest one is discovering she's tall enough to reach all the handles and she's exploring more of the house) to keep your little ones safe and to preserve your sanity (and let you get some much needed sleep)!

Great for doors that don’t fully latch or have weird edges?
My office door doesn’t fully latch and has a little lip that protrudes in the frame. However this produce is perfect to keep my kitten out of my office to stop him from destroying my potted plants. Even though it’s slightly angled in my door frame, it’s very secure and he has bit one been able to open it. It’s super easy to unlatch, and can hook on the door when not in use. I definitely recommend this for cat owners, as it doesn’t require any 3m adhesive pads and is ready to go! My kitten is 4 months, and is too large to squeeze through.

Best way to keep kids out of rooms
We used these to keep my toddler put of the rooms, while being able to keep the doors cracked open to allow air to flow through the apartment. Our central heat and air is kind of wonky, so we need to keep doors cracked open so it'll work better.

Fabulous for keeping pets out !
Absolutely LOVE the Door Monkey. I have a few cats so some stay in my room at night, others hang out wherever :) It gets cool in the rooms at the end of the hall so I bought 3 Door Monkeys to help circulate air and they work great. They also work to keep one of my cats, a 24 lb male Bigfoot :) from getting in the kitchen with a new cat, they can see each other, smell each other but not fight :) The only downside I find is that the arm section could be made of a stronger material as I know I am going to snap one when forgetting to take it off the door when not needed :) Will definitely buy more when I need to, thank you for such a great product !!

If you go on the actual door monkey site and yes they ship to Canada you are able to order these little white boxes that you can screw (or I used 3M tape) into your door frame tabs voila toddlers can't push them open anymore!! We absolutely love love these now. We take then everywhere when we travel and they work fabulously!! Keeps our mischievous boys in the designated fully child proofed areas so we cab be assured they're safe and can't get into certain rooms such as our pantry and office. ❤️❤️???????? It's good for less mischievous little ones I guess. It's worked well for a couple months but now our little guy just pulls and pulls until POP it opens!....not ideal.....next......
