Our Third in Forty-Three Years and Seven Houses

This is the third whole-house tankless water heater we've had. First was in 1973 - a coil in an oil furnace. Second was a gas-fired French import. Now this electric one. Pros: • You really never will run our of hot water. • You will never keep gallons of water hot 24/7. Cons: • Not cheap. • Power hungry, but only while using hot water. Notes on operation: (1) The installation manual is simple but don't ignore caveats. (2) Regarding flickering house lights, I'm only an electrical/electronic hobbyist, so what I say here is a bit speculative. The unit uses what appear to be triacs (AC transistors). To maintain the set temperature at various water flow rates, the triacs will cycle the heating elements on and off. They do this rather fast, otherwise the temperature would unpleasantly vary constantly. A high current drawing thing like this will dim lights, not unlike a fridge starting or a furnace or whatever. So what to do? Try to not have all the circuit breakers on the same "leg" in your breaker panel. Also, CFL bulbs seem to coast through voltage changes, whereas regular filament-type incandescent bulbs will not. Fluorescent lights should coast through as well. LEDs might, depending on how they're powered. IMHO, it's a small price to pay. Also, and this may sound a bit weird, but the further from being a multiple of the 60Hz of alternating current the triac's firing rate is, the less flicker you get. This may be why some reviewers report it and some don't. Experiment with temperature settings - sometimes 1 or 2 degrees will change it all. (3) Tankless heaters require a slight mindset change. Why? When you open a faucet with a conventional tank heater, hot water from it races through the pipe already hot. With a tankless heater, there will be a delay since cold water comes through first, even as it's being heated. After a few seconds, the heater "catches up" and you have unlimited hot water. Overall, we're quite pleased. The unit arrived clean, unmolested, and fired up right away. And it gave us back about 30 cu. ft. of storage space in our little cottage. The manufacturer (we called to check on flow rates) was responsive, pleasant, and informative.

Fantastic water heater!!

This unit heats our 1200 sq ft home (3 bdrms /2 full baths) 4 adults, with no problem. Excellent unit for the cost and only maintenance is once a year “flushing” which you should do with any unit. It takes up less room, no more having to light gas pilot lights!! Or smell natural gas and begin to panic. So far electric bill has gone down about $52 a month (previous gas hot water tank even had a timer). The company was very friendly and excellent customer service. They consult and guide you to ensure purchase of proper size tank.

Works great. Exactly like we wanted
