nice quality. Pleasant happy light! Eggplants are doing great!

This year I did a lot of container gardening so I could bring some of my vegetable plants and herbs inside in the fall. We dont get enough light in the windows because of the roof overhangs so I had to get lights. These Agrobrite grow lights arrived in their originial manufacturers product box which kinda annoyed me. But both lights arrived in perfect working condition with no damage. They were ready to hang right out of the box. I purchased pully rope hangers with carbomer latches and it was a breeze to hang and then bring up or down to the desired height.Since Ive never used these before, I wanted to avoid scorching the plants, so started off putting the lights in a fairly high position (approx 2.5 - 3 feet from the top of my eggplant & basil plants. It has been 3 days and the plants look better than they did outside because it had gotten suddenly much colder outside at night here in jersey.So I got the plants inside just in time before they started to shrivel. I have to say that besides helping the plants, these fixtures give off a very pleasant light and the high lumens have been better for our moods too. I expect people with S.A.D could possibly benefit from having this kind of light in the room they spend the most time in. We hung one in our kitchen dinette area and another in our living room over the succulents and herbs. It feels so much nicer now. (I like light & visibility!) Hoping it will be of benefit to my teens as well. Had then on 10 hours straight each day and no flickering. They are silent (no buzzing). I have the 4 bulb/4ft fixtures. The entire unit is sturdy & well made. Nothing flimsy about it. Bulbs come out easy by turning them. I tested it & the fixtures still functions if you take 2 bulbs out. I may lower then a little and add a timer. Will update my review in a few months.

Arrived dented, otherwise elegant chassis and adequate lighting

I purchased the Hydrofarm FLP44 4-Feet/4-Tube T5 Designer System with Bulbs as a gift for my wife to put over a small herb/orchard garden. I wanted a light that was aesthetically pleasing so it could be placed in a bay window in our formal dining room just off our kitchen. I was trying to avoid having an ugly light setup hidden away that require a hike to the basement to gather herbs for dinner. From a functionality standpoint, the light is perfect. It puts out more than adequate light for growing our herbs (mint, basil, cilantro, parsley chives and tarragon) but it's not so bright that it makes the room unpleasant. The light shipped to me in only the original manufacturer's packaging. It appears the manufacturer attempted to seal the box with two small pieces of "hydrofarm" branded packaging type tape. Both pieces of tape had come undone. Someone, probably Amazon?, had added a larger/stronger piece of woven tape which had also torn and come undone. The box wasn't gaping open, but it wasn't sealed. The box showed some small dings along the outer edges of the top and bottom front and rear. When I un-packaged the light, I discovered a small dent along the upper rear edge at approximately the center of the light and another small dent a couple inches inside from the first (on the top of the light). Since the light was a gift for my wife and I wanted it to be perfect, I contacted Amazon and they graciously agreed to replace it. Unfortunately, the second light had worse dings in almost the same spots. Also, the second light had a bulb that was much dimmer than the other three. As the light was a gift and I needed it immediately, I decided to keep the first light. Other than the dents, the lights meet our needs perfectly. The metal is a lightly textured powder coated brown and the hardware is clean and matches nicely. The included hangars are a thin wire covered with a fine black wrapping (think guitar string). The unit is elegant and sleek enough to put into a nicely furnished room without looking too out of place. I'm not sure if the lights are being damaged in transit or if Hydrofarm has problems with their manufacturing or quality control processes. Whatever the case, it would've perfect for my needs if it weren't for the dents so I'm giving it 4 stars. See uploaded pictures for more comments.

Beautiful quality; maybe a bit too expensive?

This is a very sturdy, great-looking, well-made product. Extremely bright. Installation of the lights is simple - once you figure it out. There are no instructions on how to install/change the bulbs. Hint: the bulbs can be twisted to remove (which is necessary to remove packing materials). However, I have a bit of sticker shock and may return this product to purchase cheaper LED grow lights. If I had more money to set up a grow space for my seedlings, I would outfit my room with more of these fixtures, as they are very nice quality and look slick. They also draw a lot of power, though, which contributes to the expense. Keep in mind these bulbs are High Output T5s - they are not the regular sized T5 bulbs. These are skinnier. This is another reason I am leaning toward returning, because I have several sets of T5 bulbs I could use as replacements for a regular T5 fixture, but not for this. If you can afford it, I would go with these lights over LEDs. Keep in mind the specific bulb type and the wattage use (260W). Pros: Very well made, Bright, Don’t give off too much heat, Look great Cons: Heavy, Specific bulb type, Expensive, High wattage use

Exceptionally well made, fantastic customer service!

I found the four T5 bulbs to be too much light for my application. So, I called Hydrofarm, and they told me how to use two at a time. After several years, I switched to two LED's, for less heat generated. I then began to have troubles with the LED's burning out every few months. I called Hydrofarm, and we went step by step, replacing parts under warranty that might be the culprit. Nothing worked, so we decided that with LED's anyway, one should simply run four at a time. So I was appreciative, and said I'd just go back to florescent bulbs. Then, they blew me away by offering to send me a two bulb unit, for free! The quality of the build on these units is far better than what I have seen in a very long time. This offer is so far beyond what I expect today in customer service that I really don't know what to say! I know where I'll buy in the future, for sure!

Caught it on sale, good value and quality.

Survived shipping. Unit is built fairly nice. One of the bulbs pulsed for the first day and it made me worried but I believe they were still breaking in because it went to normal after that. Growing 2 tomato plants about a 16 inches away and they are enormous after 1 month, so it works.

Not Terrible

Product works very well all the bulbs works from the box which gave it 3 stars. It is what it is no arguements. My issue is the box came beat and battered taped in a couple places but not enough. Also was not concealed at all, left propped against the front of my house in view of anyone walking or driving by on a windy snowy day.

Five years later....

This is a very well put together light. Ran like a dream for the first 3 years and now it has some issues with getting hot. Bulbs were easy to replace with t5's you can find here on Amazon. I am just buying a second one now so I more than recommend this for your indoor garden.

Highly recommended

AMAZING light. Using on a 75 gal heavily planted fish tank with plants growing inside and out of the water. So good tank lights aren't needed even at 2.5ft above water level. LOVE the finish and how it blends into the home unlike those stark white med lab looking lights. Great shipping

Broke before I could use it.

Arrived unbroken, box was beat up badly, but it made it. Tried it on kitchen counter and all worked. Excited I hung it in tent. The very moment I use the switch for inner lights for the second time ever it breaks, the switch itself is loose to feel with no clicking like other one. And with the way the warranty works you would be better off with no warranty. Very low quality, made in China, would not recommend to anyone.
