Great Fins

I tried about four or five different fins on at local shops before I settled on these. My local shop will let you use them in the pool and still return them. This was nice to be able to do because I have a wide foot as well as a high instep. So, I tried the ScubaPro Twin Jet and Twin Jet Maxx - no bueno. Too tight on my wide foot - I mean painful. Then the ScubaPro Sea Wing. First I had to make my peace with the look, but I just didn't feel like I could get good propulsion out of it. Next up, the AquaLung Slingshot - The XL was way too small - they must run small. The AquaLung Shot was a good fit, but something kept drawing me to the Mares Xtreme, and I'm glad I did! They are adjustable open-heel fins, but they have quick release, fold-over type buckles, so once you size them, you just put them on and fold over the buckle and you're ready to go. Great for the width of my foot and great propulsion. I wear a size 10.5 to 11 shoe, and with the 7mm boot on, an XL fits perfect with room to spare if my foot was bigger. Great fins.

Great fins - will take these to warm water from now on!

After having my feet chewed up full foot fins when fighting current, I decided I'll always use the full foot fins. My older Mares are something like 20 years old at this point so wanted to try something new. These are great, booties fit in them nicely, more power than the full foot fins for sure. Maybe not quite as powerful as jet fins or other Mares, I don't want to base that on way old fins, so you'll have to judge. There is a bit more material, but on the whole lighter than I would have thought, won't add that much too luggage. On the shape, they really seem to kick more naturally. I've seen comments on the "click" when they hit the notch. Honestly, I looked for that but can neither feel nor hear anything that would call it out. I've actually looked at them when finning to be sure I'm closing them. No problems for me there for sure.

Got two different straps

Mares makes great fins, but the pair I got have two different heal straps, forcing me to have to buy an additional strap above and beyond the cost of the fins. Since both fins came in the same mesh bag, I suspect these were returned and mismatched.. Disappointed.

The product shipped is not what is shown

The Mares x-stream are outstanding, well made and light. The product is great, unfortunately, what is being advertised, at least in the black, is not what is being shipped. The ad clearly shows and states the new abs adjustable fin straps, but when you get it, it has the old bungee style, not the abs plus as shown. I was nice and sent back the first set as a mistake, and requested it be resent with what I asked for...the second set where bungees as well. I fixed this issue by ordering the abs plus straps as a set for backup, and will change out on my own. Happy with product, not seller.

Awesome fins

Great fins, good propulsion. Size 9 women's hard sole boots used size Regular in fins. Very visible underwater and was the only one with them on our boat so no mixing fins.

Best fins I have ever owned in 50 years of diving.

I've owned many fins throughout my life but these fins are remarkable. They make diving and snorkeling effortless. The toe box runs large so you will want to purchase fin socks when you purchase these Mares X-Stream Open Heel Dive Fins. I find that the heal strap a pleasure to use. Adjust the strap to where it is snug and then flip the clamps back for a good firm fit. Not that I think I will ever need them but I recommend purchasing a set of Fin Savers just in case you may have a fin get away from you when exiting the water in the surf. The fins are a little pricey, however, worth every penny when you see how effortlessly you glide through the water with minimal kick.

Awesome Fins!

Purchased these for my husband for his birthday and he is in love! We looked at a similar style in a different brand and settled on these. Boy, am I glad we did! He loves the comfort and durability. The fit was spot on and he has said they have given him a ton of ankle relief while also making him faster. He has a bad ankle so it was something we had been concerned about but this may be the solution!

Great for scuba diving

These are great fins! Good power with little effort when scuba diving. They are light where they need to be, around the center of the fin, and stiff around the edges for good power production. The slots on the fins help keep the fin stable through a kick, and the many holes in the boot housing help keep the housing from becoming a sea drogue. Lots of comments on these, since they look great, too. Cons: not really a con, more of a preference, but I ended up buying a set of Mares bungee fin straps simply because they are easier to don/doff than the clip kind.

Got the Finns and one of the clips dose not fasten.i am in Egypt on holiday on a diving trip had to use tape to hold strap tight but after 30 min it came un fastened so not pleased with purchase I only need a new back fasteners

Nach ca. 10 Jahren mit meiner guten alten "Mares Rapida" dachte ich, es wäre mal Zeit für 'was neues. Erst kurz ein paar Worte zur Rapida, damit Ihr meine Rezension zur X-Stream besser versteht: Die Rapida hat ein Blatt aus faserverstärktem Kunststoff. Das Blatt ist knallhart und "aus dem Ganzen". Eine gewisse Flexibilität über die Länge ist dennoch vorhanden. Dieses Prinzip macht diese Flosse recht schnell und bei einigen unverhofft harten Strömungs-TG hat sie mir den nötigen Vortrieb verschafft. Wenn man hier richtig reintritt, kommt man ordentlich vorwärts, auch wenn man z. B. mal fix andere Taucher einholen muss. Leider erkauft man sich das mit Nachteilen. Die Flosse bricht, weil sie aufgrund der steifen Konstruktion keinerlei Kanalbildung zulässt, gern nach der Seite aus. Das lernt man aber zu beherrschen. Größter Vorteil der Rapida ist ihr geringes Gewicht, mit gerade einmal 1,3 kg pro Paar (!) (Größe R bzw. M) ist sie in Zeiten der Gewichtslimits bzw. Zusatzkosten für Flugreisen ganz klar im Vorteil gegenüber vielen anderen Fins. Aber zurück zur X-Stream: Ich hatte mir zuerst Größe R (M) bestellt. Aus irgendeinem Grund hat aber Mares ein im Zehenbereich sehr breites Fußteil konstruiert, so dass mir die Flosse nicht richtig passte. Ich verwende Mares Classic Dive Boots (Größe 8). Das hat mit der Rapida prima funktioniert, aber in der X-Stream wackelt man herum. Damit fehlt der feste Kontakt zur Flosse. Also R (M) zurückgesendet und S bestellt. Besser. Allerdings ist hier der Sohlenteil nun kürzer und endet etwas "zeitiger" unter der Ferse. Das ist gewöhnungsbedürftig, macht sich aber beim Tauchen m. E. nicht negativ bemerkbar. Die X-Stream liegt bei ebenfalls sehr reisefreundlichen ca. 1,4 kg pro Paar. Die Flosse hat übrigens positiven Auftrieb; sie schwimmt also (zumindest im Salzwasser, im Süßwasser noch nicht getestet). Das kann schon 'mal von Vorteil sein! Ich habe die X-Stream nach dem Kauf erstmalig im Urlaub im Warmwasser (29°C) benutzt. Mein Eindruck: Die Flosse wirkt nicht wie ein Fremdkörper am Bein, sondern wie eine "organische" Verlängerung. Bei langen Schlägen mit dem gesamten Bein aus der Hüfte zieht sie angenehm weich durch. Schön konstanter Vortrieb, ohne das Gefühl von Lastspitzen am Bein. Zuweilen bemerkt man an nach dem Durchtreten der Totpunkte das Umschlagen des weichen zentralen Flossenkeils. Das irritiert am Anfang, weil man meint, irgendwo dagegen getreten zu haben. Es stört aber nicht wirklich. Bei Gegenströmung ist die X-Stream meiner alten Rapida klar unterlegen. Das gilt unter Wasser genau so wie an der Oberfläche, wenn man mal fix auf dem Rücken liegend vom Heck des Bootes zum Treffpunkt an der Ankerleine paddeln muss. Bei härteren Strömungsbedingungen kommt die X-Stream wahrscheinlich vergleichsweise schnell an ihre Grenzen. Ein abschließendes Urteil dazu möchte ich mir aber (noch) nicht erlauben. Vielleicht wäre die Größe R (M) hier besser, weil länger, aber die passt ja leider nicht (s.o)! Eine große Stärke dieser Flosse liegt m. E. in der Feinarbeit. Sich mal schnell und gezielt um die Hochachse drehen oder sich in den Kopfstand schrauben, um den Ammenhai unter dem Korallenblock anzusehen, funktioniert feinfühlig und beinahe intuitiv. Man hat dabei nie das Gefühl, gegen einen größeren Widerstand zu arbeiten. Hier spielen sicher auch das geringe Gewicht und die gute Gewichtsverteilung eine Rolle. Insgesamt lässt sich die Flosse gut führen und vermittelt ein angenehm komfortables Tauchgefühl. Ob die X-Stream ebenfalls 10 Jahre durchhält, wird sich zeigen. Gutes Gerät, aber wegen des Fußteils und der etwas zu geringen Reserven bei Gegenwind eben doch nur 4 Sterne. Irgendwas ist immer!

Gut für ca. 100-130 Tauchgänge

Die Flossen sind super! Nach ca. 100 Tauchgängen riss die eine, woraufhin ich im Ausverkauf noch ein Paar kaufte, nach weiteren 30 riss die andere wie am Foto ein. Das ist bei Verbundstoffen eben ein Risiko. Ich werde noch versuchen, sie zu reparieren, z.B. mit HF-Schweißen. Warum? Weil die Flossen generell SUPER sind.
