Fantastic Rust Effects! It works every time and is worth the cost!

I have always enjoyed Modern Masters rust effects, but i find myself running out of the activator. I buy the Modern Masters Kit that comes with a little bottle of activator, but it is never enough to cover everything you can do with two bottles (primer and iron). I needed more activator, and didn't want to buy another kit, so i thought I would try my own with Vinegar, Salt, and Hydrogen Peroxide. That did work, but it isn't as good as the real deal This large bottle of activator just works great, it gives you the deep rust, but also the fine power like rust. I am very frugal, but when you can get consistant quality output that this activator provides, you realize it is worth it. To those that haven't used the activator before, you will first need to have the kit which includes the primer, iron paint, and activator. This big bottle helps out when you use up your little bottle of activator, but still have plenty of paint. I have the best results by letting each of the paint layers completely dry. Then I place the model in a zip lock bag, spray it well with activator, and seal it up for 20 or so minutes. After that, i take it out and let it dry. The longer you let it dry, the more awesome the rust will become. Since it is surface rust, I seal it with a clear coat of matt or gloss UV protectant. Like rustoelum clear topcoat. The pictures you see, the hood and stack are PLA 3d printed, and the machines are Resin 3d printed. Both give amazing results. Thanks, and good luck with your crafting, and modeling!

So amazing - may replace Jax for almost everything

I ran out of my Jax supplies and used this on a whim. First, it completely removed all tarnish from my brass and copper (not acrylic paint though) and got it back to a lightly oxidized state. Then I washed it and set it aside. I came back a few hours later and all of my copper had a beautiful green patina! I’m not sure what its meant for, but irs not my go to for copper

The look of rust.

The product works excellent, just brush it on or use a sponge. To be used on plain steel. The petina came out after a few hours, I put a couple of coats on this planter. The picture on the right was taken months later.

Leaking cap, again.

I love this product line, I’ve been using it in my art work for a few years. Problem when ordering the activators they are liquid and pricy. While they are shipped in a sealed plastic bag they leak EVERY TIME!!! This last bottle was not terrible, but still a little mess in sealed bag. A simple fix would be a bit of electrical tape around the cap as a preventative. You have a 5 star product but the leaking caps are wasteful and frustrating.

Great product

This product works excellent. I've used it on multiple hot rods and rat rods. You can rust plastic, metal, painted objects so easy. It's nice to be able to make real rust patina with as little as one or two solutions. I use it with the metal effects oxidizingpaint most of the time. It will rust bare metal though. Just not as good or quick. See results same day. Gets better over the weeks.

BEAUTIFUL RUST EFFECTS

The whole Modern Masters line of oxidizing paints is a playground for rust enthusiasts! The company's iron, bronze, and copper base paints use oxidizing agents to create true rust as well as green and blue verdigris patinas on wood, metal, and other surfaces. I've found that temperatures and other environmental factors influence the speed and degree of oxidation created, so there's always some guesswork involved in using these paints. But the advantages far exceed any small challenges. I've used all of the company's oxidizing paints for years on many projects and I consider them simply great!

Love the instant rust look.

I was glad to find this activator in the 16 oz size. I love the rust look and there is never enough of the activator included with the instant rust 4 oz kit.

I had the wrong paint, my fault.

I took a long shot on this one hoping I could distress some tiles I painted with a copper paint. It worked to a point but not enough. I think you need paint with enough metal particles that aren’t covered with the varnish within the paint for it to work. Fortunately I tested it off the wall. So, check the composition of your paint if you don’t want to wing it!
