Tips for a less troublesome install

It looks nice. The motor turns a "bowl" that is open at the top... I am concerned it will fill with bugs and stuff, but maybe that won't matter... Install... nice detailed instructions, but clearly written by someone who never actually installed one. After installing my first, I'll do the next in a different order and save myself some unnecessary grief. First... the first instruction has you mount the mounting bracket "using the screws and washers provided with the outlet box". If this not a new install, and those old screws you're trying to take out from a previous fixture are stripped or corroded... youre in trouble straight out of the gates as none are provided. (Theres a reason dad always kept a jar of left over screws... if you did not inherit that behavior from your dad, or you're not that dad... you're gonna need to go get some outlet box screws if yours dont come out cleanly...heads were stripped on mine from the previous install.) They provide one extra screw and washer for what is provided... but not those outlet box screws. You're probably going to need better wire nuts than what is provided. Second. The blade mount is quite clever and gets the blades up near the center of the motor (good for low celing clearance). HOWEVER, the instructions have you inserting those blades into that "bowl" I mentioned previously, after the unit has been supended from the ceiling. Those screws attach INSIDE that bowl, which at this point you can no longer see...with 8" of clearance. And if you drop one... it now lives inside that bowl and you cant get to it if you dont take the whole thing down as reverse the 10 previous steps. SOLUTION: After step 3, jump to step 12... install the brackets (without blades) BEFORE you mount motor unit to the ceiling. Attaching the blades to the brackets is MUCH easier than the brackets to the motor while on a ladder, and you get the benefit of being able to see what youre doing, and a dropped screw is not a disaster. And while you're still on the ground assembling the motor bits, with easier access to a work surface, theres no reason not to knock out steps 13-16 before you climb back up the ladder. The bulbs provided are very bright. I ended up leaving one out. The blades are double sided with a nice wood finish on one side and a rustic barn gray on the other. Other than installation instructions that made it a tinsy bit more difficult than need be, I love the fan, its quiet and moves a ton of air. Although it also comes with a balancing kit, it was not needed and spins at high speed without any wobble .

Easy to install, providing you do not hang fan BEFORE you install the blades. I'd pay a kings ransom and throw in a private part to watch someone hang the fan, THEN try and install blades like the directions say...good luck with that! I read reviews where they complained about a low hum from the day of the install? Mine is whisper quiet. (After 10 months, fan is still quiet other than the occasional clunk from the imbalance, see below) I read reviews where they complained about a "chemical odor". Yes, this fan does have a weird smell to it, but I don't think it will last long and for me, it's installed in the garage so I'm not too worried about it. (Just as I thought, weird smell lasted a couple days max, then it was completely gone) Pros: Fan moves a fair amount of air, has a nice modern look to it, easy to install, with the exception of the blade issue, has a nice bright light set up and is reasonably priced. Cons: Fan balance is HORRIBLE out of the box! I tried every blade and only got it to balance ok when I used 1 weight all the way to the blades edge on one blade, and then the the same on the very next blade. Even then, on high she rocks a little. Probably not a serious problem for most people but I build performance engines and spot on balance is absolute key to longevity, so this bothers me a little . (So after 10 months and many, many tries, I cannot get this fan to balance out. As I originally stated, it's not terrible, but it does wobble and occasionally you will hear a clunk from the fan on high, usually when it first comes up to speed, then the fan settles in to a mild wobble. Still bothers me but not enough to pull the damn thing down to return and try another one. Maybe I just got a bad one, maybe they're all this way. Just be aware of that, otherwise, for the money, it's not a terrible fan. I didn't remove any stars, hope if you decide to buy this fan, it's a good one) The other issue is, the screws are made of some kind of tin, so they are not forgiving of a worn screwdriver. Make sure you are straight on the screw and I'd avoid using power tools for the install. The screws are not magnetic either, which tells you all you need to know about them. These were the only reasons I deducted one star. Otherwise for the money, it's a decent fan. After some time, I'll come back and leave a comment on longevity and whatnot.

Nice looking fan

Nice looking fan, I bought two. Installation instructions were, in my opinion, confusing. IMPORTANT TIP: put the fan blades on BEFORE mounting the motor assembly to the ceiling bracket. I assembled the whole fan, blades and all (except the light fixture -did that after installing fan) then hung the fan minus lights onto the ceiling bracket, then connected wiring, screwed bracket cover in place, then attached the bottom two pieces for the light fixture. The first fan took me a couple of hours because I couldn’t understand the instructions (I finally just studied the pictures). The second fan only took me 40 minutes and that’s mainly due to all the blade screws (5 screws per blade). Fans both operate perfectly, quiet, plenty of air movement, and the light is crazy bright. The light globes do worry me as they don’t seem super secure to me. They screw on but don’t feel like they really lock on. I’ll probably look into some way to more tightly secure them. Only reason I don’t give these a max rating is the useless instructions and the less than ideal light globe attachment. Knowing what I know, though, I definitely would buy them again, and would recommend them, with the caveats mentioned earlier.

If you don't have a pre existing electrical box the installation can me more complex
