Good for tight spaces, not so good durability.
Bought these to replace the original that came with my Sonicrafter F50. Pros: Cheap. Small footprint so gets into slightly tighter spots than say the Milwaukee or Makita backing pads. Cons: Not durable. Would I buy it again? Only if the smaller footprint of the Rockwell pad was needed to access spots that the larger other brand backing pads are unable to. Otherwise I'd recommend theMilwaukee 48-90-2000 Multi-tool Replacement Sanding Pad . Yes, it is more expensive but has proven to be much more durable. My advice is regardless of what sanding pad you choose, only run your multitool on the lowest speed and don't use much pressure. The long story: I destroyed the original Rockwell Sanding Pad that came with my multitool in about 3 minutes. I ran it on about speed #4 and this melted the hook velcro on the backing pad, rendering it useless. Okay, partly my fault, but regardless I needed a replacement. I was delighted to find that replacement backing pads could be found for such a good price. I purchased these and armed with the wisdom of my previous experience I reduced the speed to #2 and the amount of pressure used as well. Pad #2 lasted about 15 minutes. No melting of the hooks of the velcro this time, but the velcro on the pad delaminated from the foam. At this point I bought a Milwaukee Sanding Pad which has been great. It has more surface area of the Rockwell backing pads which helps with reducing loading. I have only run it on the lowest speed and it has given me a few hours service thus far. Being a larger pad, the Rockwell sandpaper won't fit - I bought Makita sandpaper (which I would recommend). I did find a use for my last Rockwell backing pad however. Due to it's smaller size, it was able to fit into an area that the Milwaukee pad could not. So that is it's one advantage. I used it on the lowest speed setting and it has managed about one hour use without delaminating/melting yet. I didn't have to use the different bolt that came with the multitool that is labelled "other brand only". The default bolt worked with the Milwaukee backing pad, albeit you have to fully remove the bolt.

Great Product if You Work Within its Limitations
Yes, these are made out of plastic. if you overwork them and they get too hot, they will start to melt. Don't use them on high speed and don't spend a lot of time working on just a single corner of the pad. Spread your work across the entire surface and take a break every few minutes. If you do this, the pad will work great and last indefinitely. Multi tools are great, but they're not great at everything. By putting this pad on you tool, you are basically making a saw do a sander's job. You will have good results if you understand this.

Rockwell NOT
Hard to believe this is a Rockwell product. Both foam rubber platforms disintegrated in less than a minute each. Hook and loop layer adhered poorly to the platform.

Absolute necessity for one of my favorite tools!
I was short a few 4x4 posts for a project, but had access to some that had been scorched. These sanding pads made reclaiming the posts and finishing the project quick and easy!

Easier to order here and have free shipping than having to set up purchase from tool manufacturer
OEM part, easier to order off amazon than to get from manufacturer's site, had to order these as original that came with tool loses it adhesion after awhile, came in a 2 pac so I will have a spare when I need it.

Great time saver, poor product quality, Work Around!!
These wear out almost as fast as the sand paper, which generally manages to lose its Velcro grip before the sand paper itself is actually worn out. The Velcro "hooks" on the pad wears down causing the sand paper to lose its grip. It seems the plastic is relatively soft, especially wearing along the edges. It is huge time saver while it works but very expensive to constantly have to buy paper and pads. (1 star) Update -- At Lowes hardware store I bought some SuperPower slow setting hot melt glue and a glue gun with a high and low setting, and hot-glued the pad to the pad. I did not take time to let it complete set as I had the project to continue and so they only set about 5 - 10 min and it did great. When the paper wore out, it came off pretty easily. The next day I tried to get a paper off and had to use pliers, it bonded very well. A regular hot glue might work as well and be easier to get off later. I updated the stars from 1 to 2 because I am getting more use from the pads than out of the box use.

very satisfied
i read the reviews here and reluctantly ordered them and i am sure glad i did. i have a dewalt dwe315 oscillating tool and they attached without the adapter. many reviewers complained about melting during use but i have had no such issues. i have not worn one out under heavy use, yes the edges of the sandpaper become worn quickly if you are doing detail sanding but that is not unexpected. i just have not had any of the issues the other reviewers have mentioned. i think they are excellent and would not hesitate to recommend.

ROCKWELL best for the Money!
After wasting money on the one at Harbor Freight I tried this one and am very pleased. Better built and worth the money!

Poor grip to sanding sheets
The velcro grip on the sanding pad does not grip very well to the sanding pads and comes loose at higher speeds

Must be an updated model that no longer is a reflection of the product photos, very unimpressed
Tl;dr I was hoping to buy an all metal sanding pad but this is metal and plastic. Not at all like the photos in the listing, I was looking for a solid metal sanding pad with a hook and loop system on the underside. This is exactly like the other sanding pads available, a plastic base with the mount made of metal and uses three screws to attach to the base plate. After one use the screws began to melt and fall out of the fitting.

Hook & Loop system on the pad
The only problem we have using this item is that the hook & loop system on the pad does not seem to last over a period of about 6 months. With usage the hooking system on the pad wears down and does not last to hold the sandpaper. When using 320 grit paper, the pad gets hot and the plastic sheet on the pad that holds the hook and loop peels off.

Rockwell changed the design and I don’t like
Rockwell changed the design and I don’t like they added a half inch thickness and it doesn’t fit where it used to I bought the first advertised product when it came out they made some changes and I didn’t like it

Perfect
A lot cheaper than any local store and they look to be authentic Rockwell products. A word to the inexperienced . Use the tool at lowest speed when sanding and this pad will not overheat.
