It’s alright
If you on the fence between this or a hard mounted cb, I recommend buying the hard mounted CB. I’ve been unsuccessful in making this work effectively, but I have put in minimal efforts in doing such. It’s been a novelty for my lazy self. If your invested into saving a few bucks and working through quirks, I think there’s potential here.

Works great for a dump truck
This item worked great for me as a backup when my cb went out in my truck. It served its purpose for the short range I needed to talk to the towers and loaders. Gave it a 4 star due to having to get rechargeable batteries. Other than that it works perfect for me!

Surprise! It's a CB.
As per SOP, with included antenna it's got the range of a thrown rock. With a HYS ROD-130N antenna, it's a pretty average CB. Squelch is nice - not too sensitive, the display could stay on longer but that's not a show stopper. Battery life is OK if you're just listening. Do too much talking and you'll find it's a battery eater. I recommend rechargeable battery's.

It works as it should more of a listening tool on the highway without a external antenna. Defaults to channel 9 everytime it turns on. Transmit range within a vehicle and stock antenna seems to be about >1/3 mile.

Gets out about 50' forward.
Bought the unit for tractor trailer hauling wide load construction equipment so I could communicate with pilot car escorts. Car in front could hear me as long as he was within more or less 50'. The car behind me could not hear at all. Will buy an antenna extension for this unit and try that but will probably end up with a full size cb radio which I really don't want to do.

Love it!
I wanted to get back into CB but didn't want to spend a lot of money just yet. I wanted something affordable to just listen to the local CB traffic, and this unit satisfied that need. Operating the radio is simple, not much bells or whistles like a mobile unit... just a power/volume and squelch switches, and easy to press channel buttons and PTT. It has very nice audio output and it transmits nicely over the air. Although this radio has an included rubber ducky antenna, I've ordered a longer antenna (16 inches), that would help to pull in distant signals and to get out farther than the stock antenna. Love the radio, very satisfied with my purchase.

Only works well if you attach an external antenna. The little rubber ducky antennas worthless couldn't pick up anything or couldn't transmit to anything nearby

Handy little radio, but best suited for use outside of a vehicle
Bought this radio for spotting lines from at most 10m away or lending to friends who don't have their own radio on trail runs, and it's been great for that. Receive range when inside the vehicle is surprisingly good for what it is, I've received clear signals from a few hundred metres away. Transmit range on the other hand is maybe 50-75m at best, which is to be expected when you have the antenna inside a steel box. Have not tested the transmit range with it outside a truck so can't attest to that. The ability to use rechargable NiMH/NiCd AA batteries and have the unit charge via the 12v power cord is nice, keeps you from having to carry around 9 spare batteries. My only nit to pick is that, when connected with the 12v cig lighter cord it disables the battery power, so the unit does not remain powered on if you shut the truck accessory power off, and does not have channel memory (always selects channel 9 when you start it back up). Channel select is not a mechanical switch though, and the obvious solution is to just plug it into constant 12V or unplug it before shutting the truck off, so for the price and my intended usage, not something I would hold against it.

It has very rounded corners, easy to hold, channel up down buttons, push to talk button, off and on volume dial on top with a squelch dial, to save power when the squelch is up the channel number turns off until the squelch is broke, rubber ducky antenna with a BNC connector, belt clip on the back, with a soft material wrist strap, speaker and mic sockets on the side, power port on the side and can run from a power supply with a lighter socket or in your car lighter socket, and a hi and low power transmit switch, it will take 9 AA batteries, Alkaline or rechargeable batteries but make sure the switch on the inside is set to either one because the power port will recharge the rechargeable batteries when the are in the unit, very easy to use, fits in your hand, looks good, kind of well priced for what you get, I like it alot and will probably buy another one. I havent tested the range yet but I did not need it to go far just a couple of blocks
