They really work in the worst conditions
I have now tested the tires in very slippery ice, slippery packed snow, and heavy snow. They perform perfectly in all three. I tested a slippery street with my Subaru Outback, which is amazingly good and with the Schwalbe tires, and the bike beat the car for grip. You don't need the studs on the sides in most cases, but if you're crazy and like to corner hard on ice, or if you ride in a lot of icy ruts where some grip on the side might help, you can easily buy a pack of studs and pop them in. Nearly all the time, you just need some studs on the bottom. There is a fair bit of tread, and it really bites into snow. The heavy tread also makes these tires much more resistant to punctures. The rolling resistance is phenomenally horrid, and they're quite heavy, but I think you should already expect that. Some people say they mount easily and some say they don't. That really is a function of the tire paired with the rim, and you should never select a tire based on whether it fits easily. Get a few different tire tools, especially the Kool Stop tire bead jack, and you won't have an issue with any tire. The studs make a buzzing sound on pavement, but it's quite tolerable. You lose a little grip on dry pavement, but not much. Just don't lean on turns really hard. The studs are very durable, from what I've been told, and riding on pavement doesn't wear them out much. Still, I leave these tires on a dedicated set of wheels. You wouldn't want to ride on them every day given the downsides I mentioned above. Safety tip: Be careful mounting these. I raked my arm on the studs during the mounting and got a nasty scrape. If you're conscious of that fact that the studs bite, you probably won't have an issue.

Incredible grip
I feel safe and comfortable using these tires. they are just a little heavy but for the money and safety it's definitely worth it.

These tires made a dicey commute to something that was safe at reasonable speeds. I only wish I could get it in a larger width with the side studs.

Extremely durable, performs great in icy conditions
You still want to be careful taking sharp corners on ice, but I have not fallen once with these tires and I bike all winter long every day even in -20 F and windy conditions! Bundle up and don't let the weather get in the way of your bicycling

You won’t be falling
You’re not going to win any races but will stay upright. Do not try to ride at 20psi on gravel, these tires are terrible at low psi. But the are quite good at 40psi on both asphalt and gravel.
