Not bad but not a favorite

The media could not be loaded. Baby Bum SPF 50 Sunscreen Spray is a fine sunscreen but not one of my favorites. It leaves more of a white-cast than most of the other mineral/physical sunscreens that I’ve used. It doesn’t feel too heavy though so that’s nice. Although it spreads well, it doesn’t rub in well and leaves me with streaky white spots. I do love that it comes in a fragrance-free version because scents are a huge dealbreaker for me. At 3.4% Titanium Dioxide and 15.7% Zinc Oxide, it provides adequate UVB protection but potentially questionable UVA protection. Some people say it’s not about the percent of UV actives and instead claim that it’s just about the formulation, but there doesn’t appear to be a strong conclusion either way. I do feel the need to clarify that just because this product is in a spray-form, that doesn’t mean you just spray it on and go. In the chemical sunscreen world, yes, you could probably get away with just spraying and not rubbing it in. But in the mineral/physical sunscreen world, you’re going to have to have rub it in to properly protect your skin. The formula in this spray bottle is the same as the formula used in their roll-on bottle, so if the spray mechanism upsets you, perhaps consider the roll-on one. You still have to rub it in but it may feel more intuitive to roll it on and rub it in, than to spray and rub.

Leaves A Cast

I enjoyed using this sunscreen for myself. When I purchased it I thought it would be a finer spray, but it's still pretty thick. It does leave a white cast on the face, if that matters to you. I was using it for a festival, so I didn't want the cast. However, if your using for baby or at the beach/pool the cast is not a real issue.

Easy to spray but you still have to rub away the white cream

Nice enough spray but was hoping for a lighter mist of sunscreen that didn’t have to be rubbed in. This spray on a heavy white and then you rub in

Great product - just leaves a bit of white cast

I would give this a 5 star but it leaves a pretty noticeable white cast. If you are using this on a baby, this obviously doesn’t matter, but if you’re like me and using this for under your makeup / regular face SPF, I recommend a diff one maybe cuz this leaves a very white cast. I even had my brother tell me one day, “you look pale. Are you gonna be sick?” And I was like um no….oh wait I have sunscreen on my face. Other than that, it’s very nice under my makeup and doesn’t make me breakout. The ingredients in this are genuinely very clean!

Works well, but awkward to put on

This sunscreen works great - I used it for a beach weekend in San Diego on two kids that don't get a ton of sun, and they never burned. It's really hard to spread though, as it doesn't spray evenly, but in little circles. It was easy to miss spots that way. My son also has very dark skin and it was very visible on him for awhile, though that did make it easier to see where I missed than on my fair-skinned daughter.

Travel approved

I love this sunscreen so much. It does leave your skin a little white and isn't the easiest to spread but the protection is top notch. It's airport/airplane approved. Used it on multiple trips and have not gotten burnt or broken out which is a huge deal for me because of my sensitive skin and eczema.

My favorite spray sunscreen

This is the only SPF 50 mineral sunscreen I can find that's in a spray (not aerosolized) bottle. I LOVE IT. Yes, it leaves a white cast. All mineral sunscreens that are SPF 50 and above will leave a white cast. But, it's great for gentle skin, is mineral based, and is SPF 50 (plus the benefit of being in a spray bottle), which is exactly what I look for in a sunscreen for my kids (I'm a dermatology resident).

THICK!!

This stuff is THICK so don't use too much! I put some on my face and looked like a ghost. I love that it fits easy in the diaper bag, and because of how thick it is you can definitely tell where you may have missed on your baby.
